![]() In 1931, the Gener family sold their cigar brands in order to focus more on their sugarcane properties. In 1900, Gener died in Spain and his daughter Lutgarda Gener took over the business and it would stay in the family for another thirty years. Literally translated from Spanish to English as "the Hole of Monterrey" in reference to the concave terrain favoured by growers of premium tobacco, the brand became popular, especially in the British market and José Gener's factory subsequently became one of the largest factories in Cuba. In 1865, after using his factory's profits to acquire a tobacco farm in Vuelta Abajo, he registered a cigar line named for it: Hoyo de Monterrey. Twenty years later, he would open his own cigar factory in Havana and begin producing his own cigar line, La Escepción. In 1831, Don José Gener y Batet emigrated to Cuba from Spain at the age of thirteen, where he worked on his uncle's plantation in Vuelta Abajo. While I love the store, I’m not sure if I’ll go back.Hoyo de Monterrey is the name of two brands of premium cigar, one produced on the island of Cuba for Habanos SA, the Cuban state-owned tobacco company and the other produced in Honduras by General Cigar Company, now a subsidiary of Swedish Match. I just wanted to let others know the experience I had there. I don't believe that corporate stopped their discount program. I can’t tell you how disappointed I was in the managers decision not to provide a discount this time. He wouldn’t budge so I regrettably and reluctantly paid full price for the cigars and left the store. The manager came up with some excuse that corporate no longer authorizes discounts and that his hands are tied. His manager came over and I told him that every time I come in, he approves a discount because I spend a good deal of money at this store each time I shop. Once again, I asked about It and the clerk said he would have to get his manager to approve it. Today I spent over $305 on cigars and the clerk did not apply any discount nor did he offer it to me. They do a dog and pony show where the clerk calls the manager over and they make a big deal out of it. Corona cigar company has, on most occasions, offered a 10% discount on my total bill, but it's always been a "process" to get the manager to honor the discount. ![]() I shop there every couple of months to restock my humidor. I frequently shop at corona cigar company in Heathrow and my average spend for cigars is about $250 per visit. always flirting trying to dig in mens pockets and taking shots think their cute because their "hiding" from the boss under the counter ADD MORE BAR STAFF! I'm still thirsty she took so long! oh and the press is always "broken" so can never have a cuban sandwich. id love to work there, i see the potential in business that their not taking advantage of, you'd also make more in bar sales. lol? doesn't make sense like they don't know who to cocktail. never carries a tray so they can bring all the drink at once. and worst part is they say they always remember us that we regularly come. but once my boyfriend arrives or joins the table, only then i will get noticed. especially if your a woman, they'll always serve or greet the men at a table before me. your better off getting a drink across the street and coming back. very attentive….only downfall is the bartender/waitress. staff is always helpful and nice in educating and recommending a perfect cigar for you. We love to hangout at corona we go all the time! only cigar bar in our area.
